Cali, Colombia

cali110

The self-proclaimed "Salsa Capital of the World", Cali is an eclectic locale of wonderful food, music, and culture. The streets are alive with fast-paced rhythms and the people are as welcoming as any that I've encountered during my 19 weeks abroad. Dance is the local pastime, and there's no shortage of studios which promise to get you onto to the good foot with a series of lessons. In fact, I just completed my first one-hour session, the most incredible aerobic workout I've experienced during the entire journey. Cali is an intoxicating city which I am truly fortunate to visit. … [Read more...]

Cartagena, Colombia

If I had to describe Cartagena in a single word, it would be "postcard". Every vista seems to be a living photograph. The vivid colors, bold sculptures, and breath-taking architecture all contribute to the city's world-renowned charm. This reputation is well deserved as walking the streets of Cartagena is somewhat dreamlike. But there's no use blinking or pinching yourself; this is certainly no dream. Colombia's colonial jewel is as real as it gets. … [Read more...]

Dominican Republic: Photo Shoots in Santo Domingo and Santiago

drshoot11

Of the 10 countries that I've had the wonderful fortune to visit over the past four months, Dominican Republic is the first that I could realistically see myself living in for a long period of time. This Caribbean nation has it all: beaches, mountains, perfect climate, and amazing people. However, like Cuba, the Spanish here is fast & furious. I'm doing my best to keep up. Fortunately I have friends in the capital city of Santo Domingo, so I'm holding my own (for now). I have two weeks in this wonderful country and plan to make the most of every minute. While here, I have several photo shoots on tap. Can't wait. … [Read more...]

Panama City, Panama

Here I am. In the middle of the country in the middle of the Americas. Panama City is my second-favorite capital city (behind Mexico, DF) due to its incredible food and people. I'm staying in a hostel on the waterfront. I met a few locals last night who showed me all around town: casinos, restaurants, clubs. It was a great time. I look forward to visiting the national museums in the next few days and learning more about the construction of the awesome canal. … [Read more...]

Panama Canal, Panama

canal110

I really don't know where to begin. Visiting the Panama Canal was a spiritual experience. The massive structure is awe-inspiring. In fact, my only point of reference are the pyramids of Egypt which I witnessed during my trip to Africa in 2009. The Canal is a modern marvel of engineering which truly has to been seen in order to be believed and appreciated. I had extremely high expectations for the canal...and even those expectations were blown away by the monstrosity of what I encountered. Certainly one of the top 3 highlights of my journey. … [Read more...]
